A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr – Dystopian Books Review
During the nuclear war of the twentieth century most popularly known as Flame Deluge, a violent backlash happened against the culture of knowledge. It presented advanced technology and caused the introduction of nuclear weapons that destroyed humankind.
The story of A Canticle for Leibowitz revolves around Catholic Monastic to preserve the legacy of mankind in the eighteenth century. The story explains that six centuries ago the whole mankind suffered a Flame Deluge and aggressively rejected the power of knowledge in Simplification.
Leibowitz, a widowed woman who was a former weapon scientist, starts gathering followers to establish a monastic order to dedicate to remnant preserving human knowledge. But later she became martyred and by the 26th century was up for canonization.
They hoped after the cold war humans would understand that war was not the only way to finish things. It was nothing but a false belief by some innocent humans who left with humanity. This was not the end but the starting of a manhunt over the purpose of gathering people based on religion and knowledge.
As time passed by A.D 3174 Hannegan ii Texarkana finally leaned on reuniting North America and secular scholars who shook off the Church’s monopoly on learning. The troop was led by his cousin, named Thon Taddeo. This hunt for man begins with a war that led to further destruction of mankind.
Hannegan intrudes and wins New Rome by killing their envoys. The end was nowhere as two categories of groups were fighting with different mentalities. One group of scholars thought of a secular world and another group focused on their destructive mentalities. The huge difference in both the groups concentrated on wanting the world to be a better place for humans and another group, against the existence of humankind.
In A.D. 3781 darkness gives a way to light to come in. It contains a lot of radiations in it and another dark event becomes planned. This may lead to the destruction of humankind and on humanitarian grounds.
