When you find out cancer has hit home and you or a loved one have it, there are many changes that must be made in your life. While some seem drastic, others appear trivial. Skin care may appear trivial with so many important issues at hand, but it is not.

When you have cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy, taking good care of your skin will lessen the irritation, inflammation, and pain that may develop because of the chemo drugs. Regularly applying a cream or lotion will nourish your skin, and choosing a line of products to use that are developed especially for cancer patients will better treat your sensitive skin. These products should be full of vitamins and antioxidants, which will help put back some goodness that the chemo, unfortunately, takes away.

Whether you have red patches, dryness or flaking, a good chemo cream that moisturizes and hydrates will ease your irritation. If your symptoms are more severe, like cracking, peeling, or blistering, serums and balms may lend more relief. Again, finding a good reputable line of skin care products will help you ease and alleviate whatever afflictions arise.

Chemo skin care is not only about lotions, creams, serums, and balms. It is about avoiding extreme temperatures, modifying your bathing habits, and donning protection to do household chores and before going out in the sun. Hot water bottles, heating pads, and icepacks are now no-nos. When you bathe, it should be quick, warm showers, not long hot ones. The heat will irritate and dry out your skin faster. If you are going to tackle cleaning and dishes, wear gloves so no heat or chemicals get on your skin. And always wear at least SFP30 sunblock or higher before sun exposure.
