Southeast Queens Chamber of Commerce teams up with Oprah to screen her documentary, The Color of Care

Queens, NY

When executive producer Oprah Winfrey and the Smithsonian Channel released Oprah’s new documentary, The Color of Care, it offered Dr Roxanne ‘Simone’ Lord, a naturopathic doctor in Jamaica Queens, an opportunity to partner with OWN to bring awareness and raise funds to lessen health disparities in people of color. It precipitated physical, mental and financial healing for millions for African-Americans.
Dr. Lord called on Carol Maraj, a long-time supporter of women’s health as well as an advocate for battered women, to sing at the screening. Carol Maraj is the mother of Nikki Minaj. Ms. Maraj has confirmed that she will be singing a gospel song at the VIP reception for the screening on August 10 at Mother Earth Juice Bar Café in South Jamaica. Dr. Oprah Winfrey, Dr Lord and Ms Maraj all have the desire to make this world a healthier place for people of color.
Dr. Lord said, “When I moved Mother Earth Juice Bar Café from Metropolitan Avenue in Kew Gardens to Sutphin Blvd in South Jamaica, I noticed a monumental difference in the quality of health in patrons from the two different, diverse communities. Approximately 1 in 50 people that came in the old location in Kew Gardens were suffering from ailments such as hypertension compared to 1 in 5 that came into Mother Earth Juice Bar Café on Sutphin Boulevard in South Jamaica, NY.
The Color of Care documentary by Oprah Winfrey will allow nonprofit groups like Dr. Lord’s to roll out more solutions to start eliminating these disparities as they build health and wealth of their community. The Southeast Queens Chamber of Commerce is thankful for the help of all the elected officials in her community, medical doctors, naturopathic doctors, nurses, community leaders, pastors, elected officials, fitness, yoga, mental health professionals that are collaborating with the SEQ Chamber of Commerce to break health paradigms in people of color.
Black and Brown people of color have suffered for a long time because of compromised health leading to shortened lifespans and poor quality of life. The Color of Care will be screened virtually on August 10, 2022 from 6:30 to 9 pm, with three in person VIP watch parties scheduled. There will be a watch party at St John’s University Theatre with Destiny University hosted by Dr. Stacie N.C. Grant, www.Faithpreneurweekend.com; The Luxe Library with hostess Delicia Davis, www.the luxelibrary.co and Mother Earth Juice Bar Café with Dr Lord at 115-42 Sutphin Blvd, Jamaica Queens. www.MotherEarthJuice.com.
