On the twentieth anniversary of “Symphonie Fantastique”, the magic Basil Twist’s Underwater Puppet Show is going to be relived for a twelve week run from 29th March. The toughest part to learn is a marionette such as Howdy Doody which is operated on strings from high above the puppet’s head. Till now, there was no abstract puppet and even if there was, the forty-eight year master puppeteer Basil Twist says, “There were not many”.

Many of you might be thinking that where he got the idea from so the answer lies here. Around Twenty years back, Twist was walking down his block and gets to see a ten-gallon fish tank which had a crack in it. He brought it home and covered the crack with duct tape and filled the thing with water. He then puts a piece of silk on the end of a coat hanger and dragged it through the water which looks great.

Out of his first grant of a thousand dollar from the Jim Henson Foundation, he went out and bought the biggest fish tank and started sticking other things into it. He knew very well that he needed music for the show to be held. And then he decided to go for Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.”

When everything was planned properly, he named his show after Berlioz’s piece and got the opportunity to organize a premiere at the basement theatre of the performance complex on Dominick Street.

It is indeed one of the breaking news USA that the charm of “Symphonie Fantastique” is again going to be relived for a twelve-week run. This show includes all like sparkles, like fairy dust; blue disks that bump into each other, like who the hell are you; skinny, hatted things that look like enoki mushrooms growing upside down.

You will get to see eggs frying in a pan and something whirling in a circle, like an enraged doughnut; and how about a black thing flying across a bronze-colored sun.

Believe it or not, this year’s incarnation will be more interesting.
