Sean Erick Cummings received three medals for his service in United States Army. Serving in the army was always something that he planned to do.

There have been a number of slogans the United States Army has used to recruit citizens into military service. Some of the most recognizable have been "be all that you can be" and "army strong." For some people, fancy slogans aren't needed because they've been raised to see army service as an honor.

"I knew I wanted to serve in the United States Army. Not only for the prestige, but because I wanted to be one of the men that history will look back upon with pride," says Sean Erick Cummings. The romanticized view of military service is shared by many. From the pinning of a medal for his service, to the 21-gun salute and taps performed at a military funeral. "I want my family to be honored by my service just as I take pride in the service of my forefathers," states Sean Erick Cummings.

The army taught Sean Erick Cummings many valuable skills. In addition to working hard, Sean Erick Cummings was taught the importance of staying confident and working as a team. Even though he knows he is an individual, Sean Erick Cummings began to identify himself as a part of a unit. "There is a special bond you develop with the other soldiers. A kind of brotherhood only developed when you serve together," says Sean Erick Cummings.

For his service, Sean Erick Cummings received three medals. He received the Unite States Army's Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. "It was an honor to received three medals for my service. They demonstrate my service in the military and will leave a legacy for my children," says Sean Erick Cummings.

Sean Erick Cummings is grateful for the medals. Each medal means more to Sean Erick Cummings than the average civilian can understand or appreciate. "Serving the military isn't for everyone, but for those that do serve, they should be proud of themselves and honor those were unable to make it back home," says Sean Erick Cummings.
