The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit institution affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education. The CSC is responsible for the organization, management and provision of financial resources to Chinese citizens studying abroad and to international students and scholars studying in China, with the goal of developing exchanges between China and other countries in the fields of education, science and technology.

In partnership with McGill University, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) offers scholarships to outstanding Chinese students who will pursue doctoral or postdoctoral studies at McGill. For doctoral students selected by the CSC, McGill undertakes to cover the cost of tuition while the CSC will provide the student with a stipend sufficient to cover living expenses, return airfare and visa application fees. For selected postdoctoral fellows, the CSC will provide a postdoctoral award and McGill supervisors will provide additional financial support.

Funding

Doctoral Candidates

The CSC will cover return airfare, visa application fees, and annual living allowance including International Health Insurance. McGill University will cover the candidate’s tuition fees (exclusive of other fees, such as registration or student association fees) and consider them for further financial support. How to apply.

Postdoctoral Fellows

The CSC will provide a postdoctoral award and visa application fees. McGill supervisors will provide additional financial support, subject to the availability of internal and external funding. How to apply.
Eligibility

In order to qualify for a CSC doctoral scholarship, the candidate must be a Chinese citizen or permanent resident and cannot be working or studying abroad at the time of application. Eligible students will have excellent marks, and will undertake to return to China upon completion of their studies.

Students must also meet all of McGill’s requirements for admission to a doctoral program. Typically, this entails the prior completion of a degree equivalent to a McGill Master’s as well as meeting the minimum English language requirements.

The minimum admission requirements for Chinese students are available in this pdf document, China/Chine . In order to apply for the CSC scholarship, students must already have received an unconditional offer admission from McGill promising to cover the cost of tuition.
