The United Kingdom has become a binge-viewing nation with forty million people watching back-to-back upsides. There is a difference between the viewing habits of older people and younger Brits. Research revealed that eight in ten adults now watch multiple episodes of their favourite television shows in a single sitting.

79% of adults in the United Kingdom (40 million people) are using catch-up technology to watch multiple episodes of their favourite television shows in one sitting, reducing the need to wait for the next weeks episode to be released. Thirty five percent of adults do this every week and fifty five percent binge watch on a monthly basis.

Seventy percent of binge viewings find it relaxing and enjoyable with twenty four percent using it as something to discuss with family and friends. As many as thirty two percent admit they are tempted to watch another episode, which reduces how many hours of sleep they get each night and leaving them feeling tired at work the next day.

At the same time, forty seven percent of younger adults aged sixteen to twenty four years of age are cutting down their television viewing. This trend is driven by the faster internet speeds now available, how many televisions most homes have and using smart phones and tablets.

Seventy six percent of young people have a subscription steaming service, while only nineteen percent of older people have this service. Sixty eight percent believe watching television brings their family together. On-demand services are used by younger adults and older adults with sixty three percent of adults using BBC iPlayer to watch their favourite television shows and films.
