Depression can be considered as one of the archaic mental issues that usually affects the person’s perception, feelings, thoughts, sense of well being and his behavior. More often than not, the usual feeling that a depressed person may have are emptiness, sadness, worried, guilt, anxiety, hopeless, worthless, restless, irritable or hurt. In addition to that is their tendency to lose interest in some activities that were once pleasurable to them, problems in concentrating, loss of appetite or craving for more foods, issues in remembering details or decision making and may even be inclined to attempting suicide. Aside from all of these are underlying conditions such as excessive sleeping, insomnia, loss of energy, tendencies to inflict harm to themselves, fatigue and even digestive problem. That being said, depression should and must be considered as a medical emergency which must be taken very seriously. The need to know the possible treatment for depression is therefore necessary to combat and address this type of problem.

Behavioral therapy is seen to be an effective candidate in treating depression as per recent study and research. This has been proven to improve the affected person’s overall quality of life through helping them fight the underlying condition. This is seen very helpful and important since people in depression are faced with a very serious and prevalent problem that may result to another looping issue. It was even noted that those dialysis patients who have suffered from so much depression have been linked with life span which is shortened. The great thing about dialysis patient however is that they are given and are taking medications that can help them deal with the said problem.

The best thing to do whenever you are one of those depressed individuals is to have access to the team of specialists that offer collaborative care, support and advises. Such strategies are seen to have led to the depression symptoms improvement right away –right after treatment of course.

Considered as the second largest cause global disability by the year 2020, depression is a condition which is relapsing and is long term. There are some cases, in the UK that considers GPs in treating it. The downside however in this setting is not beneficial for having depression managed and addressed since of the general and specialist health professional’s barriers, limited support for patients coming from the specialists and those patients who aren’t serious at taking their medication.

The best thing with collaborative care, is that it works with a structured management plan, enhanced communication among health professionals and patients get regular follow ups. In order to have this achieved, there will be an appointed care manager that will be working under a specialist’s supervision. This person will also function as a mediator between mental health specialists and the GPs.

It is still however under the patient’s restriction if they want to undergo such process of treatment for depression. Although most of the health care specialists are focusing on coming up with the most possible and effective solution, it is the patient’s decision that must be considered afterall.
