In the middle of a successful dentist career, Sam Dason, DDS decided to join the army reserves. While being in the army, he worked as a Lieutenant Colonel for a 9-year period.

Sam Dason, DDS has joined the United States Army Reserve, a federal reserve force that allows its members to combine their civilian career with a military one. Army Reserve members can continue their education or professional career during the military training, an aspect made possible by the army. This could not be viable without army reserves being able to serve close to their home, an aspect that Sam Dason, DDS took advantage of.

While being a member of the Army Reserves, he has received the same training as any active-duty soldier would, including various advanced programs like the After Basic Combat Training, or the Advanced Individual Training, two very important programs that provide basic and advanced training for the American military force. The difference between active-duty and reserves was the frequency, and the fact that reserves like Sam Dason, DDS did not have to spend all their time at the base, but rather one weekend every month.

In addition to that monthly weekend, he also has had to go through a two-week long annual training. During these field practices, the reserve soldiers have had to complete challenging training course in an effort to keep their skills sharp, if the need to require their services ever arises. The service options for US Army Reserves span from three to six years. To Sam Dason, DDS, the army reserve has offered the best of both worlds.

In 2009 Sam Dason DDS was activated to serve in the US Army for 90 days and was stationed at Camp Shelby, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He assisted the US Army in preparing the soldiers who were leaving and coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq in the dental readiness program.

Sam Dason got to keep his civilian job and even practice it during his military career, and he also had a chance to experience what it is like to serve his country while getting a valuable military training. Conversely, while completing his service, he also had quite a lot to offer by providing specialized capabilities in the form of dental services, something that is not present anywhere else in the Joint Force and was only found in the Dental Corp where he served while being with the army.

By being a member of the Army Reserves, he and his fellow reserve soldiers have provided a huge advantage for the United States Army. Reserve members comprise more than 20 percent of the total army, but they only cost around 6% of the total budget, which made the contribution of Sam Dason, DDS, and his fellow reserve soldiers invaluable.
