Sadaqa, Lilah and Qurbani are known to virtually every Muslim. Sadaq refers to a voluntary act of alms giving by Muslims. It is a contribution that is above the obligatory giving or payment. This giving can mark or even bring blessings to an occasion such as anniversary, wedding or personal success. It can also be given in the instances of bereavement or sadness. Thus, there is no specific time for this alms giving whether in period of sadness or happiness because it is a sign of appreciation or gratitude to God.

Lillah is an Arabic word that comprises of a proposition Li and the noun Allah. Li proposition has different meanings on the basis of how the sentence is constructed and context where the phrase is used. Allah in Islam stands for God. It is used in addressing one and only God in whom Muslims believe. The world Lillah means contributions that are made to God to get pleasure from Him.

There are two types of these contributions. These are Sadaq and Zakah. In most cases, these contributions are given to the poor, constructing Masjid and schools as well as paying teachers, Muezzin, and Imams. The contributions can also be donated to destitute Muslims but they cannot be donated to rich Muslims. Having the intention to make the contribution comprises the intention of making Lillah and the person will receive reward for this.

Qurban is also an Arabic word that simply means sacrifice. It is a worship act that is performed on certain days by Muslims. During these days, Muslims slaughter livestock and then distribute them to their friends, the poor and relatives to consume. This worship act is commonly practiced on the 12th, 11th and 10th days of Thul hijjah in the calendar of Muslims. The worship is a way of showing gratitude or appreciation to Allah as well as asking for His blessings.

Sadaqa, Lilah and Qurbani donations can be made through different payment mechanisms. These include the Isaar Trust where a Muslim just donate or give the website their donations. Through these systems, Muslims are able to track their donations over time. Get more information here www.edhiuk.org.
