Bordeaux’s desi food connection

Posted July 3, 2019 by rumasingh

Bordeaux wines are considered among the top-rated wines in the world. Indian cuisines are among the most celebrated and loved.

But the rich structure of Bordeaux wine and the complex spicy profile of Indian food makes food-and-wine pairing a challenge between the two.

Yet Bordeaux is keen tap into the unexplored Indian market, and Indians are fascinated with Bordeaux wines. Can the twain meet? Yes, says French writer Laurent Moujon, whose earlier books covered Bordeaux wine pairings with Chinese and Japanese cuisines. His newest book on Indian food and Bordeaux wines covers recipes from superstar Indian chefs based in India and abroad, from Sriram Aylur (Michelin-starred Quilon, London) to Cyrus Todiwala (Café Spice Namaste, London), Akshay Bharadwaj (Michelin-starred Junoon, New York) and our own Sanjeev Kapoor and Manjit Gill, amonf many others. In each case, their food pairings with top Bordeaux wines have proved to be a hit.

Ruma Singh catches up with Moujon in Bordeaux and discovers what he thinks and how the project has proved so successful. And reports on the delicious wine-paired dinner Moujon and his team are hosting around the world!
