Is An Off-Grid Solar System Perfect For Remote Areas?

A solar power system is more popular in remote locations where people cannot access the main electricity grid. Mentioned below are the functions of the off-grid solar system with or without batteries.

People living in some remote areas may not have access to the on-grid or main electricity grid. They have still an opportunity to enjoy electricity with the off-grid solar system. The off-grid system is also known as the remote solar system as it is perfect for remote locations that do not have access to the main grids. Even for locations that have access to the on-grid electricity, solar energy can be used when the Sun is down. Nowadays, this kind of hybrid system is becoming popular as a smart solution.

People whose homes have no existing grid connection at least within half a kilometre away from the nearby distribution lines may find the off-line solar power system more convenient and feasible. In recent days, many homeowners are choosing an off-grid solar system with storage facility rather than having their new-built home connected to the grid. According to solar experts, a solar system along with energy storage facility is the more financially viable option than taking a new connection from a distant.

Off-Grid System with Batteries

In this system, solar power has been produced in batteries. These batteries are typically designed as banks of storage batteries. Most of these off-grid systems are installed in remote areas where people have no access to the main grids. Have a look at how off-grid systems with batteries work:

• After sunshine falls on solar panels, DC (Direct Current) Electricity is produced.
• The DC electricity charges the batteries set in series according to the storage requirement.
• A charge controller or regulator controls the timing and amount of charge going to batteries.
• Current produced by the remote solar system and stored in batteries can run 12-volt appliances. Alternatively, the current routed through an inverter can convert it to 240V 50Hz AC electricity, which is suitable to run home appliances.

Off-Grid System without Batteries

Since the solar power system is directly linked to the DC load, there is no need for battery backup to store the electricity. By using this off-grid system, common appliances such as lights, pumps, fans, and fridges can be powered.
