All You Need To Know About Solar Batteries And Storage

Posted July 16, 2018 by RoryScott

Solar batteries and storage systems are a huge step forward towards energy independence as it lets you store power and use it when you are in need of it.

Tasmania, Jul 16, 2018: Adding solar battery storage minimizes the reliance on the grid and is also a convenient source to save on utility bills. However, what do you need to know when choosing a system? Here are lists of things you need to know before implementing a Solar battery storage systems in Tasmania.

Few Things To Know About A Solar Battery:
You need to get familiar with a few terms before buying a Solar energy storage in Tasmania.

Usable Capacity:
The capacity of a battery is the amount of energy in kWh. Batteries for solar power storage should never be drained completely. Some batteries are also misleadingly sold quoting ‘total’ capacity. You need to check what is being stated. A user should be concerned about the usable capacity of the battery. If a battery is sold at 14kWh, its useable capacity should be near 13.5kWh. A battery will never fully discharge to prevent damage.

Cycles:
A cycle of the battery is referred to as one complete discharge and one complete charge. However, the reality is a bit different. A battery may only discharge in 25% and then recharge 25%. This is just one-fourth of the cycle. So, you need to know how many cycles warranty a battery has to do the work. Only, after that, you can work on the number of kWh (units of electric) your battery will deliver over the warrantied lifetime.

Battery Chemistry:
There are primarily two types available
• Lead Acid
• Lithium
Lead Acid is cheap to install in the battery, but it is inefficient and will not last long. The other option, which is, Lithium, ion or iron phosphate, has a much higher price but has better value. If you are looking for efficiency, Lithium is a much better option and has longevity over other options.

Power Output:
Some of the battery storage systems can only deliver 800 watts of power. These are of no use as a minimum of 2000 watts of power is required if you want a cup of tea. So, it is essential to check the power output before you buy a battery. Otherwise, you will find yourself drawing more power from the grid even if you have energy in the battery.
