EXPANDED LAUNCH OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF TOTAL ANKLE REPLACEMENT PROSTHESIS

The developer of the next generation ankle joint replacement system announced that the AAA Triple A© Ankle Arthroplasty is now available for distribution in significant number of countries

Ankle arthroplasty is the second largest and fastest growing market in orthopedics with revenues in 2013 of over 130 million dollar
and growing at a robust pace of 30% annually.
Growing numbers of elderly and obese patients are the major factors driving the market of total ankle replacement worldwide.
In the previous generations of total ankle prostheses (TAR) the high-risk complications such as mal-alignment, continued pain and
arthritis developing in the adjacent joints were associated with total ankle replacement surgeries and have hindered the growth of
the global ankle replacement market.
The ankle joint has unique, complex anatomic and biomechanical characteristics that must be considered in the design of a
successful total ankle arthroplasty prosthesis. The current three component, non-cemented ankle prostheses have shown
satisfactory mid-to long term results with reported 5 year survivorship of over 95% and 80-90% at 10 years

The AAA Triple-A® ankle prosthesis was developed with these factors in mind:

- Broader range of indications: To date the indication of many designs is limited to those patients with correct alignment, no
ligamentous laxity, a good range of motion with no pronounced deformation. The consequence of this narrow indication band is
that in a general patient population approximately 90% of the patients will still be indicated for an arthrodesis.

- Increasing the joint stability in extension without compromising the free anatomical movements or the plantar- and dorsiflexion

- Guided bone cuts and the ligamentous balancing not only referenced from the tibia alone, but from the full leg axis allow the
placement of this TAR in patients with bone deformations and mal-alignments.

- Minimal resection utilizing precise, spherical milling of the talus to improve the future possibilities revision arthroplasty.
