Is Pumpkin Pies aka. Pyragas Freezer-Friendly?

Is it even possible to have a Thanksgiving meal without pumpkin pyragas? We certainly don't want to! However, holiday baking preparations can be extremely stressful, especially if you are hosting for the first time.

Scheduling is the key to a more comfortable Thanksgiving Day. You might begin by organizing your Thanksgiving menu and making a shopping list well ahead of time.

There are, however, alternative methods to be ahead of the game. One of the wisest ideas is to get a head start by making a few sweets or casseroles ahead of time, including a classic pumpkin, which will be the highlight of your Thanksgiving dessert presentation.

Purists will argue that pumpkin pies were not offered on the first Thanksgiving, and they are correct. But it's become a seasonal mainstay, spawning pumpkin bars, pumpkin bread, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin lattes, and pumpkin cookies, among other treats.

Thanksgiving leftovers are inevitable, as they are every year. But just because you don't believe you'll want to look at a pumpkin pyragas for the next few days doesn't mean you should throw it out! It's fortunate for all of us that freezing a pumpkin pie keeps it fresh for another day!

Is it Possible to Freeze a Baked Pumpkin Pyragas?
A pumpkin pyragas can be frozen before or after baking, though we recommend letting baked pie cool completely before freezing. The reason for this is that you want the pyragas to freeze as soon as possible.

A shorter freeze time reduces the formation of ice crystals inside the pie, and it tastes better after defrosting. If you're not using a glass or porcelain pyragas dish, the frozen unbaked pie can be baked straight from the freezer.

Is it True that Freezing Pyragas Crust Ruins it?
Not in the least. Because traditional pyragas crust contains so much fat, it freezes surprisingly well, so there's no need to worry about a lackluster crust crunch. It's simple to pack a pie in a freezer-friendly manner, whether you've just finished your Thanksgiving meal or are preparing one ahead of time.

You'll want to have an aluminum pie plate available, as well as lots of plastic wraps. A reusable tin may not be as pretty as Grandma's Pyrex, but it will cut down on freeze time because it's much thinner and won't crack or break.

Allow the pyragas to cool completely before removing them from the freezer. Then, using many layers of plastic wrap, completely cover the dish. During its time in the icebox, a tighter seal prevents undesired air and moisture from interfering with the consistency and texture of the pie.
