Roger Bearss is always ready to discuss football strategy. He has a deep-seated love for the sport that only grows as time progresses. His love for football began while he himself was a student. After receiving an athletic scholarship and graduating with a master's degree in educational administration, Roger Bearss was in the prime position to take over the role of running a sports team.

"The important thing to remember about playing football is that it is a team sport. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses but if players don't pull together you won't get any wins," says Roger Bearss. He pushes students to work to the best of their abilities but to remember that other players count on them.

While not everyone likes competition, Roger Bearss sees it as a positive force. "It is good to be competitive. It means everyone will bring their best with them each time they show up for practice or a game," says Roger Bearss. Yet while being competitive is important, so is being respectful, "Everyone wants to win. You don't want to be a sore loser but there are also bad winners as well," shares Roger Bearss.

Roger Bearss' attitude and efforts as Millington High School's football coach have been noticed by his community and others in the state. In the 2010 and 2011 academic school years, Roger Bearss received the Good Sports Are Winners award for displaying a high level of sportsmanlike behavior during the MGSAA Tournament. The award was presented by the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

"I've been honored with every award or recognition I've received," says Roger Bearss. But it doesn't end there, Roger Bearss was named "Coach of the Year" a total of four times. "I was named 'Coach of the Year' by Tri-Valley East Football in 2010 and 2011. Tuscola County Advertiser gave me that same total those same years," says Roger Bearss.
