This press release focuses on Centennial College’s English for Academic Purposes program which gives international students the ability to study English, helping them for success in their studies and ultimately employment in Canada.

Studying in Canada is an exciting and rewarding experience for many students from around the world. More than 200,000 international students and researchers choose to study in Canada each year. Their lack of English can however, make it difficult for them to study in the country and become happily employed alongside Canadian citizens whose native language is English. Centennial College’s English for Academic Purposes program is an intensive, full-time, post-secondary English language program that helps build English language skills for student success in college or university, and opens the door for education, integration and ultimately, employment.

English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are important everywhere in Canada. There are a variety of ESL programs Toronto that provide English language courses. Among those, Centennial’s ESL program emphasizes developing effective academic communication skills by focusing the key areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Academic study skills are taught and students also receive an understanding of the Canadian academic environment. Language skills are developed and practiced through communicative activities, interactive exercises, group work and presentations. Students learn from qualified, dedicated ESL teaching professionals and receive academic advising for a smooth transition to college or university programs.

Study takes place at Centennial in a college environment with full access to resources and services such as the Centre for Academic English which provides tutoring, conversations groups, and workshops; computer labs; the library and counseling. The program is accredited by Languages Canada which means it has met rigorous standards in terms of curriculum, teacher qualifications and administration. Students can then receive an Ontario College Certificate after successful completion of Level 3 and eventually, build the English language skills necessary for success in college, university and eventually, employment in Canada.
