[SINGAPORE, 23/03/2016] – The Singapore Armed Forces is the largest military group in Singapore. The organisation discusses the three key considerations they follow when training a member of the Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC).

The Singapore Armed Forces continues to maintain the peace and order in Singapore by recruiting volunteers who can concentrate on specialised military services. By training volunteers, the SAF helps build knowledge that the volunteers can use in service.

SAFVC Training Program

Basic Training. Basic training aims to provide a basic understanding and appreciation of the military ethos and values of the SAF. Volunteers will also learn about basic soldiering skills and techniques. Apart from this, volunteers will also learn how to fire the Singapore Assault Rifle 21 during the two-week stay-in programme.

Qualification Training. Qualification training aims to provide the necessary skills and knowledge that volunteers will need when performing their specific roles. During this stage, volunteers will meet their respective SAF formations that will help them accomplish their tasks. Upon completion, volunteers will receive a promotion as an SV1, which will determine their uniformed capacity.

Advanced Training. Advanced training aims to provide extra knowledge to volunteers who are vying for certain proficiencies. For example, volunteers who want to become Auxiliary Security Troopers will need to undergo additional training in weapon handling and marksmanship. The weeklong course is highly specific to certain vocations.

Volunteers can choose between a continuous two-week/one-week training program and a five-Saturday modular option. Both preferences are extensive to the tasks that volunteers aim to achieve.
