[Singapore, 19/07/2017] – SAF Volunteer Corps, a military volunteer scheme based in Singapore, provides Advanced Military Training for citizens and residents who want to participate in the national defence system. The Advanced Military Training program aims to hone specific military skills and help volunteers become great potential soldiers for the country.

Advanced Military Training

After the Basic Training and Qualification Training, SAF Volunteer Corps offers Advanced Military Training specific to some vocations. Those who have special military roles (i.e. Auxiliary Security Trooper, Bridge Watchkeeper) may be required to undergo the Advanced Training to gain required proficiencies. The training teaches volunteers weapon handling, marksmanship, Rules of Engagement and Military Police Close Combat Training to prepare for service alongside SAF soldiers.

The Continuous Option for the Advanced Military Training is a five-day stay-in programme. For those who are unable to join the Continuous Option, they may choose the Modular Option. The Modular Option is the same training but will be conducted over five Saturdays, instead of five consecutive days.

Training Goals and Guidelines

The Advanced Military Training aims to develop specific skills and techniques as well as greater awareness of the specific roles. Training pedagogies enhance the effectiveness of the volunteers, enabling SAF Volunteer Corps to produce instructional talent.

With SAF Volunteer Corps, three key considerations guide the design of the training:

1. Safety
2. Realistic and engaging
3. Worth the volunteers’ time

All the volunteers undergo tough training. They face physical and mental challenges to reinforce their commitment to Singapore’s national defence.
