[Singapore, December 14, 2015] – The Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC), a uniformed volunteer scheme supported by the government, provides basic, qualification and advanced training to anybody willing to join and help the SAF army, air force and navy. Their progressive trainings aim to make sure each volunteer is competent enough to serve alongside the NSF, NS men and other regulars that support the operations of SAF.

Basic Training

This two-week training helps develop a basic understanding and appreciation of the ethos and values of SAF. Volunteers will undergo training and be equipped with soldiering skills and knowledge. They will learn how to fire the Singapore Assault Rifle 21 (SAR21) and adapt to a field environment.

Qualification Training

After graduating from basic training, volunteers can proceed to this one-week training module. It aims to develop greater military knowledge, providing them the skills to perform their roles. Depending on the role of choice, qualification training will take place at their respective formations. Medical Trainers (Nurse), for instance, have to take their training at the SAF Medical Training Institute.

Advanced Training

Some roles — Auxiliary Security Trooper, Bridge Watchkeeper and Deck Operator (Seamanship) — need additional training, so volunteers may need to undergo this module. This is for them to gain the required proficiencies of the role they want to pursue.

Volunteers have the choice to decide whether they should stay-in (Continuous Option) or participate over a course of Saturday trainings (Modular Option) in all training modules.
