The National VET Data Policy brings together the requirements for collecting nationally consistent data about VET activity and processes, and for using data in statistical collections and national surveys. The updated National Vocational Education and Training Data Policy includes a new Privacy Notice which brings with it revised compliance obligations for independent Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
The Government of Australia has advised that all the registered training organisations must use the new Privacy notice when enrolling students from 1 January 2021 onwards. The new Privacy notice is set in schedule 1 of the National Education and Training Data Policy.
The information about training delivered across all the RTOs assists the operations of a wide range of entities. This includes
Students - The students can access authenticated VET Transcripts that show all Nationally Recognised Training undertaken since 2015 through links with the USI,
Consumers - The consumers can access details about RTOs and courses in order to inform their training choices.
RTOs - The information would help the RTOs to plan their future training delivery and undertake continuous improvement.
Industry, Businesses & Governments - The information assists in undertaking workforce planning through an understanding of where and when skills are being developed.
Government - The government can understand training pathways and trends from the information and also take inform the development of policy and assess the impact of interventions.
VET Regulators - The information will help in informing risk-based regulation of RTOs and establish benchmarks for continuous improvement in the VET sector.
