Chembur is an eastern suburb of Mumbai. The locality is believed to derive its name from the word “Chimboree” which means “large crab”.

 
Chembur is an eastern suburb of Mumbai. The locality is believed to derive its name from the word “Chimboree” which means “large crab”. The locality was a refugee camp post partition. Industrialization of the region has led to the development of the residential market here. With the developments in infrastructure, the micro market has become one of the most important and sought after real estate markets in the city. The locality is green and peaceful.

Accessibility:

The locality is known for its connectivity as it is well connected by road and rail. The micro market is surrounded by important regions like Wadala, Govandi, Kurla, Sion and Ghatkopar. The airport which is 19 kilometers away from this locality can be reached in 30 minutes. Major roads like the Eastern Expressway and the Eastern Freeway pass through this region. The locality acts as a link between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The Eastern Freeway has connected the area with the southern parts of the city. Santacruz Chembur Link Road is another important arterial road connecting the Western Express Highway (WEH) and the Eastern Express Highway (EEH). The presence of all these roads has given the locality good access to all the major business districts in the city. The locality is served by the Mumbai Suburban Railways and the Monorail. St. Gregorios High School, Ryan International School, RBK International Academy, Loreto Convent School, Chembur English High School and Swami Vivekanand High School are present here. Colleges in the region include Shah and Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College, Sree Narayana Guru College of Commerce, N.G. Acharya and D.K. Marathe College of Arts, Science and Commerce and Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology .

Hospitality:

The locality has star hotels, business hotels and budget hotels. The star hotels present here include The Fern Residency, Jewel of Chembur Hotel, Kohinoor Elite, Hotel Maharana Inn, Rajhans Hotel and Hotel Plaza. The area has a number of restaurants and eat outs. Some of them are N Bar & Grill, China Bistro, Ivy Restaurant and Banquets, Orchids and India Bistro. The area has a great nightlife because of the presence of bars, pubs and lounges. The area has malls, shopping complexes, retail outlets of both national and international brands, factory outlets, supermarkets, hypermarkets, grocery stores and stationery shops. The K Star Mall is located here. Retail outlets of brands such as Bata, Archies, Daffodils, Shoppers Stop, The Raymond shop, Fashions and Indian Terrain are present here.

Fun Cinemas, Amar Cinema and Natraj Cinema are some of the theatres and multiplexes present in the region. The locality has recreational clubs like The Acres Club, Bombay Presidency Golf Club andThe Chembur Gymkhana. The area has parks like Basant Park and Diamond Garden.

This region has multispecialty, super specialty and general hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. Some of the famous hospitals present here are Sushrut Hospital & Research Centre, Surana Hospitals, Niramaya Hospitals, Apollo Spectra Hospitals, Oma Hospital- Specialty Women’s Hospital, Mangal Anand Hospital and Inlaks General Hospital.

Sri Ahobila Mutt Temple, Thiruchembur Thirumurugan Temple, Sri Sringeri Math, Our Lady of Perpetual Succor, New Life Fellowship Chembur, Indian Pentecostal Church of God, Madina Masjid and Madrasa Jamatul Muslimeen are some of the places of worship located here.

Real estate:

The micro market is an important residential, commercial and retail market. The locality has good infrastructure with great connectivity and this has contributed to the locality’s skyrocketing growth in the real estate market. Being one of the greenest suburbs in the city, the area was once an industrial hub. It has now become a residential area. Many IT and ITeS companies have set up their offices here contributing to commercial developments. Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, Chembur-Wadala Monorail and the Eastern Freeway connect Chembur to the prime office spaces of Mumbai.
