Atherectomy helps reduce the burden of soft calcific plaque, minimize vessel wall trauma, and change the vessel compliance that leads to a decrease in the need for bail-out stenting. The procedure can be performed along with balloon angioplasty and stent placement or as a stand-alone treatment option.
