Considering the rain in July, and the updated August and September forecasts, Skymet has revised its earlier prediction and lowered its monsoon forecast from 102% to 98%.
Aug 14th, 2015: Skymet Weather has given the revised forecast for monsoon. They have changed the monsoon forecast to 98% of the LPA from 102% issued in April. According to Skymet Weather prediction, there will 63% chance of normal, 35% chance of below normal and 2% chance of drought.
“We stand today at the half way mark, and Monsoon so far is normal at 96% of June-July LPA,”said Jatin Singh ,the CEO of Skymet. He also added that Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) helped rainfall in June. But after June 28, it went to a record negative phase, inducing multiple typhoons in the West Pacific and stealing moisture away from the Indian Ocean.
The company has predicted that after an above normal June (+16%), July is going to end with -15% which is near normal but less than our initial forecast that was +4%. They have also revised their prediction for July to 84%.
