The water level in Jhelum river rose above the danger mark on Thursday morning, as incessant Monsoon rains have been lashing most parts of Jammu and Kashmir since Wednesday. State authorities have issued flood alert for Anantnag and Pulwama districts of the state.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue in the state for next 24 hours.

Reportedly, the water level of Jhelum at Anantnag is 25 feet, which is four feet above the danger level. While water levels at Ram Munshibagh in Srinagar is at 17.10 feet, just 2 feet below the danger mark of 19 feet.

Pakistan occupied Kashmir region has also witnessed heavy rains, which has been the major reason for the water levels rising in the Jhelum river.

According to Skymet, Monsoon current is active over the state and a Western Disturbance is also affecting the region. Both the weather systems have worked together in giving heavy rains over the state. Southwest Monsoon had arrived over the state on June 24.
