Because now you can travel around the world, listing with VRBO and renting your house to tourists is encouraged. They offer a pay-per-booking listing model which is free to sign up for. However, there is an overall fee at the end:

• 5% commission charged for the rental amount, other fees, and additional payments
• 3% credit card processing fee charged on the total payment received from your traveller, including taxes and refundable damage deposits
• 2% international charge may apply if using a non-US credit card
