Desuperheater is an energy conservation product used to lower down the temperature of a superheated steam in a system where high amount of superheated heat is generated and emitted in the atmosphere.

What is Desuperheater?
Desuperheater is an energy conservation product used to lower down the temperature of a superheated steam in a system where high amount of superheated heat is generated and emitted in the atmosphere.
What is Superheated Steam/Gas?
Superheated steam is a very high temperature water vapor generated by further heating the saturated steam. Same procedure is carried out for saturated gases.
Desuperheating Process
Most common way of lowering the temperature of superheated steam or gas is direct addition of water or relational gas. With the help of Desuperheating process the temperature of this superheated steam can be used for some other applications such as
• sanitary hot water
• room heating
• hot water for processes
• cleaning water
Disadvantages of Desuperheated Steam
Superheated steam has many disadvantages some of them are listed below

• Many devices have lowered their performance when supplied with the superheated steam for example distillation columns
• To deal with superheated steam we require very high rated and expensive equipments.
• The temperature of superheated steam can damage sensitive equipments of the system.
From these examples we conclude that the temperature of superheated steam is not suitable for thermal process applications. Hence it is needful to use Desuperheater so that the heat energy lowers down its temperature we can use the temperature of steam for further applications. Hence Desuperheater becomes mandatory for such system.

Desuperheater theory

Desuperheater is a device used to cool the steam in a power plant. When steam is used for mechanical power plant such as driving the turbine rotor by expanding across turbine blades, it will be more efficient when the steam is superheated. A Desuperheater is a device which lowers the temperature of the superheated steam so that it can be effectively used for heating or other industrial applications. This action is performed by injecting a predetermined amount of water in to the stream of steam flow.
There are two basic types of desuperheaters: indirect contact and direct contact. Indirect contact desuperheaters such as shell and tube heat exchangers separate the steam and the medium used to cool it. Direct contact steam desuperheaters do not. A direct contact steam Desuperheater injects moisture through small holes into the path of high-velocity steam. After injection, the water is atomized into small drops and quickly evaporated by absorbing the superheat. Measurement of the steam temperature downstream is used to control the amount of water added during desuperheating.
Steam Desuperheater is used to spray water into steam so that water gets mixed with steam resulting in reduction in the temperature of the outlet steam. It can be classified into two
1. Integral type- Desuperheater is in-built with actuator so that there is no need to separate spray water valve
2. Non Integral type- Desuperheater nozzle and water valve are separate units



Working of Maniks Desuperheater

Desuperheater brings superheated steam into direct contact with water the steam is cooled through the evaporation it reduces the temperature of the steam.
Maniks Desuperheater is designed to work in a refrigeration system so it uses ammonia water inside to cool the refrigerant gas. When refrigerant gas in a refrigeration system is compressed in a compressor it passes though a condenser where it gives off heat and changes to a liquid state and then it passes through an expansion valve to an evaporator coil to absorb heat and change the refrigerant back to gaseous state for recompressing in the compressor to complete and the refrigeration cycle. This cycle is performed repeatedly in refrigeration systems.
The evaporator coil is positioned within a refrigerated box, display case, or cabinet and the heat absorbed by the refrigerant passing through the coil serves to extract heat from the refrigerated box and its contents to maintain the box at the desired temperature.
