Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma have named joint Greatest of All Time (GOATs) captains of the IPL on the 13th anniversary of the league. Along with them, AB de Villiers won the GOAT in the batsmen category and Lasith Malinga in the bowlers category. Shane Watson of CSK won the title of the all-rounders.

Notably, the list was picked by Star Sports' expert jury on Cricket Connected. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Team India captain Virat Kohli was named the greatest Indian batsman of IPL for being the highest scorer in the history of the tournament with a whopping 5412 runs in 177 matches which came at an average of 37.84.

Although the jury was in a dilemma while picking the greatest ever captain among Dhoni and Rohit as they both are considered most successful in the league. While Dhoni-led Chennai upper Kings to 10 playoffs out of the 11 seasons and won the title three times, Rohit led Mumbai Indians to 4 titles in 7 seasons in IPL. However, in the coach's category, ever calm and composed Stephen Fleming (Chennai Super Kings) became the winner as he surpassed Trevor Bayliss of KKR by a small margin.

In the batsman’s slot, AB de Villiers was chosen along with Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli, who are among the leading run-scorers. But he emerged the winner who plays the important role for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians pace bowler Lasith Malinga, the highest wicket-taker of the IPL so far with 170 wickets in 122 matches, emerged winner in the bowler’s slot due to his consistency throughout the years and his contribution towards the success of Mumbai.

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shane Watson, who fought brilliantly for the team in the 2019 IPL final with a bloodied knee, defeated Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell in the all-rounder’s list due to his consistency.

Notably, the jury was comprised of 50 members including former cricketers (20), senior sports journalists (10), statisticians & analysts (10), broadcasters (7) and anchors (3) and also analysts who chose the best among the list of top 10 players in each category and a list of 5 players each in categories of Greatest Captain and Coach as well.

The winners were picked by former India player and KKR captain who was the two-time IPL champion Gautam Gambhir, former England captain Kevin Pietersen, ICC World Cup and IPL champion Ashish Nehra, 2007 ICC World T20-winning all-rounder Irfan Pathan and former New Zealand speedster and VIVO IPL commentator Danny Morrison from the shortlist of 3 names based on the jury's votes.
