Former England player Kevin Pietersen said that two-time World Cup-winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is arguably the greatest captain ever. He further said that it would be difficult to argue against his greatness and ability.

"It will be very difficult just with the weight of expectation to go against MS Dhoni because of what everybody expects from him, how he has to live his life and what he has been through captaining India and then captaining the CSK," Kevin Pietersen, who had played 104 Tests in his cricketing career, said to Star Sports.

MS Dhoni took India to a new high in his reign as a captain. He led India in the title win in the 2007 World T20 and the 2011 World Cup at home. India also won the 2013 Champions Trophy under his leadership, who has currently been out of the action ever since India lost to New Zealand in the semi-final of the 50-over World Cup last year in July in the UK.

MS Dhoni, who has also been leading Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, has been a successful captain there too so far. He led the side to the title win in the cash-rich T20 league thrice in 2010, 2011 and 2018. However, the 13th edition of IPL was supposed to be his comeback event but currently it has been postponed indefinitely due to the global pandemic novel coronavirus.

On the other hand, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL titles twice in 2012 and 2014, thinks that they could have added a few more titles if they had got stunning West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell earlier than he joined. Russell, is known for his power hitting who can hit towering sixes continuously and he was also the player of the series in 2019, when Mumbai Indians won their fourth title.

“Imagine (Andre) Russell going for (Rs) 50 Lakhs to KKR and Pawan Negi for (Rs) 8 crore to (Delhi) Daredevils. I probably wished that he would have been there for 7 years when I was playing we would have certainly won one or two more," said the former left-handed Indian batsman, Gautam Gambhir.
