Samuel Holz is a Senior at the University of Colorado at Boulder, but is active with Denver’s Jewish Family Service.

Samuel Holz studies Communications at the University of Colorado in Boulder, in CU’s College of Arts and Sciences. Samuel Holz is also earning a minor in Political Science. Samuel Holz also regularly plays basketball and works for a filming and broadcasting company in the area. Samuel Holz is a busy and ambitious young man with a promising career before him, after he graduates in May 2014.

But this impressive 22-year old is also learning the importance of giving back to the community that sustains him. And that’s why Samuel Holz is active with the Jewish Family Service of Colorado, located in Denver.

The Jewish Family Service of Colorado (JFS) is committed to strengthening the community by providing vital services to people who need a helping hand. Founded in 1872, JFS is a nonsectarian, nonprofit human services agency serving the metro Denver and Boulder areas. JFS helps senior citizens live independently at home, and provides quality mental health counseling, among other services. Every year, the JFS benefits more than 20,000 people, regardless of age, faith, or income.

As a volunteer with JFS, Samuel Holz helped prepare and deliver meals to people who needed them. JFS also offers training and job placement to those with barriers to employment, as well as financial aid to people in crisis.

Samuel Holz has donated thirty hours of his time to Jewish Family Services. Samuel Holz already knew the value of going above and beyond the call of duty. He was a team captain on his high school basketball team. He also coached youth basketball and worked with youth soccer teams, and has been involved with Coaches Aid to promote youth sports. But through his involvement with Jewish Family Services, Samuel Holz deepened his sense of human compassion. Samuel Holz learned important lessons about understanding others and the value of providing support to others. Volunteerism has a positive impact on society by helping to build a stronger community, Samuel Holz learned. He also found the satisfaction of providing support to those who really needed it. And Samuel Holz learned about life outside the classroom by looking at life from a different perspective.
