Pastor Sun Hui East began her career as the pastor of First Love Christian Church in Denver, Colorado in 1990. Since then, she has developed a reputation as a respected pastor as well as a prolific author thanks to over 27 books. Pastor Sun Hui East’s latest endeavors place her in the role of filmmaker thanks to her work with Strong Foundation Films.
Based in San Antonio, Texas, Strong Foundation Films is devoted to producing faith-based films that convey the gospel message to their audiences. Pastor Sun Hui East was inspired to launch the production company after studying the success of films such as The Passion of the Christ. With a goal of relating to mainstream audiences as well as Christian viewers, Pastor Sun Hui East has released a wide spectrum of films through Strong Foundation Films.
The production company is currently preparing to release their 10th film, Scarlett. This movie marks a new partnership between Pastor Sun Hui East and Marcos Witt, a highly successful Latin artist who has been awarded five Latin Grammy Awards. Part of Scarlett was filmed at a concert held by Marcos Witt in Piedras Negras, Mexico. At the December 2013 concert, Pastor Sun Hui East captured footage that features Marcos Witt’s daughter, Elena.
After the concert, Pastor Sun Hui East had dinner with Marcos Witt and was subsequently invited to spend a day with the artist and his family in Houston in order to discuss the goals of Strong Foundation Films in greater depth. “Marcos Witt was highly supportive of Strong Foundation Films and was happy to contribute to our mission,” comments Pastor Sun Hui East. “We hope to find more ways to work together in the future.”
Although Marcos Witt was an important contributor to Scarlett, the film also benefited from the involvement of respected actor Stephen Baldwin. With the help of these two men, Pastor Sun Hui East hopes that this movie will appeal to secular audiences. Ultimately, Pastor Sun Hui East’s goal with Strong Foundation Films is to present the Christian gospel to viewers in a way that is appealing and relevant even if those viewers would normally never visit a church.
