Oladapo Etti-Williams is pleased to announce his ongoing support of sustainability in the railway industry in Europe, specifically in the United Kingdom. For Oladapo Etti-Williams, sustainability means focusing not on the “here and now” but on the long term. Oladapo Etti-Williams believes in the importance of environmental protection because he also believes that focusing on sustainability can also help economic growth and development.

“There have been a number of environmental initiatives in the railway industry already,” notes Oladapo Etti-Williams. “The heightened standards are cutting down on road pollution, because more and more companies are finding that it is more efficient for them to work with the railways.”

According to Oladapo Etti-Williams, goods traveling by rail result in 22,400 fewer tons of CO2 emissions, resulting in 20% less fuel usage per company. Additionally, by implementing new railway connections between regions, transport will save thousands of tons of CO2 emissions and millions of road kilometers every year.

Of course, Oladapo Etti-Williams also believes that focusing on sustainability also involves creating a more environmentally conscientious workplace. Fortunately, as a project manager, Oladapo Etti-Williams is able to take these initiatives into consideration and implement them efficiently and effectively.

One such way that Oladapo Etti-Williams works to improve the industry’s environmental impact is by making efforts to exceed the already demanding KPI objectives, meaning that the industry will find itself more and more prone to progress. In fact, Oladapo Etti-Williams was recognized with an industry award for three years in a row – from 2007 to 2009 – due to his commitment to safety and sustainability in the railway field.

Oladapo Etti-Williams admits that this line of work is not without challenges. For instance, with the constant advancements in modern technology, the railway industry sometimes can be left behind in the minds of many patrons. However, Oladapo Etti-Williams believes that a focus on railway sustainability will ultimately help with global problems like climate change. By building greener communities, Oladapo Etti-Williams believes that ultimately we will build a greener world.

“I think the railway industry could be a pioneer in this sense,” says Oladapo Etti-Williams. “By both increasing sustainability and visibility, we can really make a difference in the world.”
