Jerome Abrams Reinforces his Values as Physician

There are numerous health challenges in today’s society, and doctors are busier than ever fitting patients into scheduled appointments.

Jerome Abrams started work in private practice in 1983. After completing his residency in Baltimore, Maryland, he became licensed to practice medicine in Delaware. He is associated with the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians. With his professional associations and residency completed, he began to practice family medicine at Bayhealth Medical Center and Dover Family Physicians in Dover, DE.

Jerome Abrams performed the full scope of medical services. He practiced family medicine and performed inpatient and outpatient services, as well as critical care and pediatrics services. Regardless of his duties, he never forgot his service was to help people. He made the distinction early in his career that he would be different than other doctors who treated symptoms first, and then people.

In 2012, Jerome Abrams celebrated thirty years as an active staff member at Bayhealth Medical Center. In 2013, he completed thirty years of successful practice at Dover Family Physicians. Working in two facilities did not change how he viewed people. Whatever the reason for the patient’s visit, the person had a unique history affecting how they viewed the success and role of medicine. It was a philosophy he learned early when he began work at both medical facilities, and years of practicing medicine never changed his perspective.

“I work with patients of all ages. I’ve trained and worked with patients with acute illnesses and chronic conditions. What was important with each patient was the need to understand the uniqueness of their situation. Patients may share an illness, but that does not mean they will respond to treatment the same way,” says Jerome Abrams.

Jerome Abrams values people as unique individuals and believes patients benefit from his services compared to other medical professionals because of this value. “I feel it is vital to know patients as more than a collection of medical conditions and symptoms. Each person is unique, and I endeavor to find out what makes them unique – who they are in their family, community, relationships, and stage of life,” says Jerome Abrams.

Valuing patients as people and not a comprehensive medical file has not gone unnoticed by his patients. In May of 2014, Jerome Abrams was voted Kent County’s 2nd Best Physician by the Dover Post newspaper.
