Jeff Nourse says entrepreneurs must think ahead, and be prepared to improvise

Jeff Nourse is the founder of the New You Spas, which he is building into the leading provider of medical spa services in Canada. He already has fifteen years of previous medical spa experience, and has had successes in other business endeavors as well.

Jeff Nourse says that as an entrepreneur, he has learned to always be thinking ahead. There are always new business opportunities when you least expect them, he says, and that it's okay to stray a little from the path you're already on. It's also important to stay focused, he says – but not to the exclusion of all other things.

The most important lesson of all, Jeff Nourse believes, is to have an unwavering passion for what you do. He says it's a cliché to say, "find your passion." Being an entrepreneur, he knows, takes a lot of commitment and passion, so if you're sure or unenthusiastic about your product or service, it probably won't be enough to sustain you as the business develops. If, on the other hand, you are involved with something you really care about and want to share with the world, it will make all the difference by fueling your passion and giving you a sense of mission and purpose.

It's also very important to have mentors who can model their success, even if they are in a completely different line of work than you are in. Identify and imitate your mentor's work ethic and habits, their education, or whatever it is about them that makes them worthy of your aspirations. If you can, Jeff Nourse says you should talk to the mentor or mentors about how you can achieve your own goals by following their example. Use the resources that are available to you, he says, in order to achieve your goals.

Jeff Nourse says that a good entrepreneur will have a constant flow of ideas. It's great to have one project that is doing well, and for some people that might be enough. But for those entrepreneurs who really think big, it's important that they not rest on their laurels. He says the really successful ones are always asking themselves, "What's next?" They have learned an important lesson: being a successful entrepreneur is not a destination, but rather is a lifestyle.
