Doctor of Chemical Engineering and Serial Entrepreneur Imad Mahawili has founded a new company, XEnergy Technologies, which is generating partnerships and excitement in the clean-tech/green-tech space

Imad Mahawili is a Doctor of Chemical Engineering and a successful serial entrepreneur, and holds over thirty U.S and International patents. Imad Mahawili began his professional career in the United States as a research chemical engineer for E.I. du Pont de Nemours in Wilmington, Delaware. Through his work at E.I. du Pont de Nemours, Imad Mahawili discovered an interest in renewable and clean energy technologies. While managing a catalytic reactors pilot plant for E.I. du Pont de Nemours, Imad Mahawili introduced innovative reactor concepts for research in energy conversion and chemical synthesis technology. After five years at E.I. du Pont de Nemours, Imad Mahawili left to found several successful start-up companies. Imad Mahawili discovered he had a certain passion for working with start-ups and early stage companies.

In 2003, Imad Mahawili established the Michigan Alternative Renewable Energy Center (MAREC). Imad Mahawili served as the Executive Director of MAREC until 2009. MAREC is headquartered at Grand Valley State University in Muskegon, Michigan, and was funded with various grants, including multi-million dollar support from the Michigan Public Service Commission. Imad Mahawili established MAREC to serve as a demonstration center for advanced distributed generation energy technologies. Imad Mahawili also established MAREC to serve as a non-profit incubator for entrepreneurs in the clean and green-tech start-up space.

Imad Mahawili was incredibly successful in facilitating public and private partnerships for renewable energy innovation. Imad Mahawili identified biomass waste as a renewable energy resource in Michigan and sought grant funding for a test program to convert animal and farm biomass first to methane gas and subsequently into electricity. Imad Mahawili led the successful partnership between MAREC and Dulk Dairy, LLC, which established a fully operational biomass into fuel plant in January 2008. This plant now receives biomass from over one thousand dairy farms that are linked to an energy grid that draws its power from the fuel generated via the biomass plant.

Imad Mahawili founded XEnergy Technologies in 2013. In January 2014, Imad Mahawili was proud to present XEnergy’s first product innovation, the XT9000
