Kimberly Verbyla considers herself an extremely health conscious individual. Not only does she care for her personal health, but she must look out for the dietary needs and restrictions of her son too. Early into motherhood, Kimberly Verbyla found it was necessary to switch her family to a gluten-free lifestyle. While not everyone needs to establish such strict dietary restrictions on their family, it was necessary for Kimberly Verbyla.
One of the greatest challenges she learned eight years ago when making the switch was how difficult it would be shielding her son against the food temptations presented by peers and strangers. She found the key to minimizing dietary mishaps was speaking and educating people around her on her family’s necessity for dietary restrictions. “It can be difficult at first, but it gets easier over time. The challenges are harder when children don’t understand why they can’t eat the same foods,” says Kimberly Verbyla.
Kimberly Verbyla took to writing about the topic online. As a freelance writer, she is most passionate about matters of health. She writes about health and living gluten-free. She focuses on other health-related topics such as autism, relationships, domestic abuse, fitness, disease prevention, and vegetarianism. Kimberly Verbyla believes in preventative natural health, and diet plays a large part in that.
“I learned through experience that people don’t really have a lot of knowledge about what they are feeding themselves or their families. They eat and buy processed foods and don’t understand the complete ramifications of what a diet of heavily-processed food diet brings,” says Kimberly Verbyla. Seeing the gap in food knowledge and food consumption pushed Kimberly Verbyla to seek out a nutrition program for her master’s degree.
“I want to help people improve their lives. I want people to pay attention to nutrition and make wiser food choices. Not everyone needs to be gluten-free or become a vegetarian, but they still need to be educated on what it is they are consuming,” says Kimberly Verbyla.
For now, Kimberly Verbyla makes healthy meals for her family. She hopes to reach out to people through her writing and as a nutritionist in the future. Kimberly Verbyla’s goal is to improve the quality of life.
