Harjot Sidhu of Fargo is a Research Specialist at North Dakota State University. Only twenty-six years old, her list of achievements suggests she is at the beginning of a long and fruitful career.

Harjot Sidhu of Fargo has spent most of her academic career at NDSU, where she arrived in 2008. She developed her Senior Design Project over a ten-month period. It was called “Phosphorous and Nitrogen Identification and Removal” for West Central Turkeys, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. The project helped her develop her organizational skills by recording laboratory data in a clear, accurate, and timely fashion.

Harjot Sidhu of Fargo collaborated with a research team in statistical modeling of content composition of sugar beet juice. She was also involved in the development of a near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopic calibration model for predicting oil content and fatty acid of canola seeds, and the study of the sugar fermentation process of sugar beet molasses in ethanol production.

Harjot Sidhu was an NDSU Teaching Assistant for nearly a year and a half. The post required her to supervise sophomores performing lab experiments for a course called Biological Materials Processing.

Before that, Harjot Sidhu of Fargo was a lab assistant at NDSU. She demonstrated a strong attention to detail by working on microbial techniques, preparing media, plating, and counting; produced conventional and in situ canola biodiesel on a lab scale, used centrifuges in biodiesel production for glycerin separation, analyzed canola biodiesel for moisture content, oxidative stability, and cloud point.

Harjot Sidhu of Fargo spent three months in India in 2009, working on a project called Impact of Climate Change on Rice Yield of West Bengal, India. Her time there helped Harjot Sidhu of Fargo acquire effective interpersonal skills by maintaining a proper co-ordination with seniors.

Harjot Sidhu of Fargo published 2 articles: 1)“Improved microbial quality of buckwheat using acetic acid and acidic calcium sulfate solutions in a fluidized bed,” in the Journal of Food Science, 2) “Diode Array Near Infarred Spectrometer Calibrations for Composition Analysis of Single Plant Canola (Brassica Napus) Seed” in the Applied Engineering in Agriculture journal.

Harjot Sidhu of Fargo is vice president of the Alpha Epsilon Honor Society of Agricultural, Biological and Food Engineering, a position she has held since 2011. She was a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) from 2011 until March 2012.
