Giact Systems Reaches Out to the Homeless

Humanitarian-oriented company Giact Systems has fought against homelessness on many fronts.

These past two years have seen several initiatives by Giact Systems to help the homeless. This is a continuation of the emphasis Giact Systems has put on community service since its founding in 2004. Co-founder and CEO of Giact Systems Melissa Brown recently noted that, “Our goal with Giact Systems is not only excellent customer service, but to give back to the community.”

Giact Systems has involved itself in many charitable causes. One cause Giact Systems continues to combat is homelessness. “Homelessness is an international problem,” said Giact Systems co-founder and CTO Merlin Bise. “At Giact Systems, we want to use our success to create a world where homelessness is a thing of the past.” Melissa Brown added, “Homelessness is a complicated issue. At Giact Systems, we know we must deal with its complexities to eradicate it.”

One issue Giact Systems focuses on is how homelessness effects women. Women who have experienced domestic violence are at extreme risk for homelessness. One Massachusetts study found that 92% of homeless women experienced physical or sexual assault in their lives. 63% had been assaulted or abused by an intimate partner. “Women who experience domestic abuse are cut off from their family and friends, and aren't safe at home,” said Brown. “They may not be able to have access to a job. Homelessness quickly follows.”

To combat these forces against women, Giact Systems has contributed to many women-focused charitable projects. In both 2013 and 2014, Giact Systems was honored by Unbreakme. Unbreakme is an organization that visits schools to raise awareness about intimate partner violence and abuse. They work to protect children from abuse, and to help abuse victims. Giact Systems sponsored Unbreakme's Radiant Girls Luncheon against domestic violence.

This is only one of the women-focused anti-homelessness projects Giact Systems has contributed to. In 2012, 2013, and 2014, Giact Systems contributed significant funds to Hope House. Hope House is a place where women fighting addictions to drugs and alcohol can live and find support. “Some estimates say half of all people who experience homelessness have substance abuse problems,” noted Bise. “Women with substance addictions are even more likely to be homeless, as abusive partners can take advantage of their addiction.”

Hope House provides a place for women to get sober while learning life skills. This allows them to find jobs, enabling to move out on their own to support themselves and remain clean. “Giact Systems contributed to Hope House so much because its mission is so important,” said Brown. Without Giact Systems, Hope House couldn't have gotten off the ground.

Giact Systems has also fought against homelessness internationally. Earlier this year, the hurricane that hit the Philippines devastated some areas, leaving many without homes. Giact Systems donated money and sent a team to help rebuild houses. “Natural disasters can't be stopped, but we have the resources to limit the damage,” said Bise.

“At Giact Systems, part of our job is to help our community – both here in Texas and in our world,” said Brown. “Our success at Giact Systems is exciting because it enables us to help even more.”
