The city of Barnwell, South Carolina, is considered by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a Historically Underutilized Business Zone. For the city’s residents, employment opportunities are few and far between. Recognizing the great economic need in this area, Chuan-Fu Wu decided to establish the principal office of his small business, ES&H Solutions, Inc. in Barnwell. He knew his business would not only offer locals fresh employment opportunities, but would also provide a needed public service. Chuan-Fu Wu is an expert in environmental protection, workplace safety, and public health. Offering the services of his business to help improve the quality and standards of nuclear facilities, Chuan-Fu Wu is excited about his new business. He says: “I chose this area of South Carolina because of the great need it had for new business and employment. Several nuclear facilities where much environmental, safety, and health support is needed are in the neighborhood of Barnwell. My team and I will do our best to serve the community and our clients.” Grew up in a small village in Taiwan and lived in Carlsbad, New Mexico for 17 years, Chuan-Fu Wu is a fan of Barnwell’s small-town charm set within a pristine landscape.

For Chuan-Fu Wu, a technical expert and an experienced manager, opening his own business was an endeavor he always knew he would take. In addition to his doctoral degree, Chuan-Fu Wu has earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration. He is a Certified Health Physicist and a certified Project Management Professional. Through his years of experience, Chuan-Fu Wu has gained the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to turn a small business into a thriving practice. With his extensive technical and managerial experience, Chuan-Fu Wu will be successful in managing the challenges and responsibilities faced by most business owners.

Chuan-Fu Wu has a unique combination of professional experiences with the Federal government at the Department of Energy’s Headquarters and field sites, as well as major private companies and small businesses which support Federal and commercial nuclear operations. He is committed to helping nuclear facilities to ensure the safety of workers and the public as well as high standards for safety procedures within the workplace. All too often, preventable accidents and injuries occur in the workplace. Part of Chuan-Fu Wu’s mission is to bring knowledge and skills to nuclear facilities, in order to prevent accidents and ensure safe operation.

Regarding his plans for the future of his business, Chuan-Fu Wu had this to say: “Due to the recent global economic downturn and the tight budget throughout the Federal government and the industry, this is obviously not an easy time to start a small business.
