Wayne Preno is a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He has worked hard professionally to get where he is today, supported by family and friends along the way, but he firmly believes that there is another influential element that has helped him achieve so much.

For many years the ex-junior college and University basketball player has volunteered as a coach and, latterly, as youth coach in his local community. He freely admits that it is not always as an easy role to have, the responsibility can weigh heavy on your shoulders, as many will know from experience. You can experience highs, lows and everything in between, and the list of things that you find yourself responsible for is extensive!
It is for you to bring together a mixed group of individuals, and fashion them into a cohesive unit, never mind the technicalities of the particular sport, you need to get them working together first. With youth groups this is often their first real experience of being in a team and all that entails.

So it is with no small amount of pride that you cheer when you see that moment, maybe in training, or possibly in a match, when the traits of a common goal, shared purpose, respect and responsibility for each other materialize before you. And they sense it too, lifting the whole team onto the next level of its development.

Wayne truly feels that it is a privilege to be able to play a part in transforming a group of young people into a team where they can gain new valuable life-skills that will help them excel in their education and beyond. Being part of a team and a coach certainly gave him discipline, drive and determination to succeed whilst being respectful to and considerate of others.

Wayne Preno loves being a coach. He credits the skills he learned and observed when a player from the coaches who inspired and educated him, for shaping the coach, businessman and father he has become and continues to aspire to be. He fully recommends for more people to get involved with supporting or coaching their local youth teams, it really does make a difference; to them and to you.
