Riding her bicycle allowed her to have a more intimate knowledge of the city itself, and it also allowed her to avoid the constant gridlock on the streets day and night.

Valerie Topete is now a bike messenger for one of the leading companies in the industry of New York, Mercury Rises. Due to her intimate knowledge of the city, she is able to get around traffic much faster than many other riders in the city, and can deliver important messages for clients all over the city. She quickly became one of the top messengers for the company, and is always willing to prove herself to her bosses.

Mercury Rises is known for being a competitive atmosphere, and it is not unlike them to make their messengers compete for their jobs. Although the competitiveness doesn’t really have a negative affect on Valerie, she is actually motivated by it; it drives her to take more deliveries while riding hard in order to get the delivery location as fast as possible. The industry itself is competitive, and the different companies are always in competition with each other in order to get the best clients. This means there is a lot of room for more companies to enter into the industry and prove why they should be listed with the best.

Valerie Topete hopes to use her continued success in the industry to start her own company in the near future. She is currently taking business classes at the local college near her home in order to expand her knowledge of the industry. She has the know how to be successful as a bike messenger, but it is a different beast running the company from behind the scenes.
