Joel Lewinsohn is a mathematics teacher who enjoys extracurricular activities and twice volunteered to work as his school’s girls’ varsity soccer coach. He has 15 years of experience as a teacher and six years as a coach.

Joel Lewinsohn loves math and science, but he also loves being active and helping students. Wherever Joel Lewinsohn teaches, he tries to find ways of involving himself in school leadership and works to guide students to make healthy and productive choices. Joel Lewinsohn changed careers in 1997 after he left his field of work as a mechanical engineer to teach high school math and science in Nine Mile Falls, Washington.

“I enjoyed my work, but I wanted to teach. I wanted to help students appreciate math and understand its practical real-world uses. So I became a certified teacher with endorsements in mathematics: 4-23 and physics: 4-12,” says Joel Lewinsohn. With the ability to teach, Joel Lewinsohn was hired by Lakeside School District.

Joel Lewinsohn taught two math classes and two science courses. Outside of his standard teaching responsibilities, Joel Lewinsohn volunteered to work as a student advisor and also coach soccer. From 1997 to 1999, he was the Lakeside School Varsity Girl’s Head Soccer Coach. “I loved the energy and I’ve always loved soccer. It was great to coach the girls’ team to victory,” says Joel Lewinsohn.

In 2007, Joel Lewinsohn moved to Libby, Montana. “I was hired by Libby Public Schools as a high school math teacher, but I also became the girl’s varsity soccer coach,” says Joel Lewinsohn. He admits he loves interacting with students in the classroom and through school organized extracurricular activities. Joel Lewinsohn’s enthusiasm for soccer again drew him to coach the girls’ team. From 2007 to 2011, Joel Lewinsohn coached Libby Public School’s girls’ varsity soccer.

Joel Lewinsohn has a lot of passion and energy for education. He has never limited himself to the strict teaching of math and coaching. Joel Lewinsohn found other ways of involving himself in the activities of his school. For each school he has worked for, Joel Lewinsohn has been involved as a coach or a committee member. He has been a member of math curriculum adoption committees and has worked to mentor new math teachers for two school districts. Joel Lewinsohn continues to teach math and was hired by Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, Washington in 2012.
