Thomas Rucker Methvin, when he isn’t furthering the success of his already successful education at Troy University, is working on his basketball game in the gym with his friends. He played varsity and junior varsity basketball during high school, and continues to show interest in the sport through out his college days. He has worked on his game for many years, and understands how to improve the ever-important jump shot.

In order to improve on your jump shot, you have to first pay attention to your positioning. When you take a jump shot, you want the power behind the shot itself to come for the legs. The arms and upper body should be used for the initial push of the ball, but mainly for accuracy. The legs do most of the work, which is why you jump in the air in the first place. Make sure your feet are firmly planted before you take your shot.

In addition to keeping your feet firmly planted before shooting, make sure your body is square to the basket as much as possible. The more off balance you are in regards to the basket, the harder it will be to make an accurate jump shot. Square up to the basket and line up your shot based on the position of your body.

Lastly, use your follow through. Make sure you work on your form from your feet, to your shoulders, to your elbows, wrists, and hands. This will give the ball the right spin and the right touch to make it to the basket.
