Thomas Rucker Methvin has a wide variety of interests, but one of the things he is most passionate about is volunteering. He has volunteered for many different organizations throughout his life. He loves the experience of helping people, putting a smile on their faces, and giving them some time and attention that they would not normally receive. Most recently, he has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, where he has worked on many different jobs, including warehouse work as well as building and painting. He has also volunteered at Brantwood Children’s Home, which serves children between the ages of 10 and 21 who have been abused or neglected. At Brantwood, he interacts with children, helping make them feel loved and appreciated.

Thomas Rucker Methvin also volunteered extensively throughout high school. Methvin attended the Saint James School in Montgomery, Alabama, a well-known college preparatory school. He began working for Habitat for Humanity during this time. Habitat for Humanity builds houses and provides shelter for those in need, such as the homeless and those who have been affected by a natural disaster. He also traveled to Mexico on a mission trip during high school to help build homes for impoverished families there. During high school, he also began to work with many children’s homes, helping the children as well as doing other needed work such as cleaning. He also participated in volunteer activities through the YMCA while in school.

When he is not volunteering, Methvin is working to finish his bachelor’s degree at Troy University, where he is expected to graduate in May of 2016. Outside of school, he attends church at the Church of the Highlands, and he loves watching basketball, particularly the University of Alabama’s team. He also enjoys visiting some of Alabama’s most beautiful vacation spots, such as Lake Martin and Grayton Beach.
