Sukrit Agrawal is an entrepreneur and a powerful business executive who has built a small medical supply company into one of the biggest suppliers in the United States. He co-founded AMD in 1993 with his brother, and today serves as its Chief Executive Officer.

"AMD is a medical supply company that uses technology and insight to provide smarter ways for our customers to source and purchase medical supplies," he says.

But his most important role in life is being a parent to his children. He says that as his kids grow, he tries to experience life through their eyes, and he finds that an effective parenting technique. But he believes that when all is said and done, there are three qualities that are the most important for raising happy and healthy children.

The first of those qualities, he says, is love. Making your child feel loved and cherished for who they are, no matter what, is probably the single most important quality of an effective parent, he believes. It is important to spend time with your child and do the things that he or she wants to do. Whether it's playing a favorite game or reading a favorite book, you can use that activity to show approval and love through all of your actions. Warm words and hugs and a lot of smiling sends the clear message that you love the child above all else, and value them for who they are.

Another quality is being an effective teacher. Parents are always teaching their children, even when they don't realize it, because children do so much of their learning by imitating the behavior of their parents. As Sukrit Agrawal knows, research shows that this is a human phenomenon that cuts across cultural divides. So it is important to model the behavior that you want your child to learn and always set a good example. Mistakes are inevitable, but they can also be a learning tool by showing the child that no one is perfect, not even mom and dad.

Another important quality is flexibility. Sukrit Agrawal believes it is important to teach a child that rules can change as they grow. Finally, he says trust your instincts and don't confuse being a good parent with being a perfect parent, because no one can live up to a standard that high.
