Sudhir Bajaj has invested in LensGen’s development of an intraocular implant device capable of eliminating the need for reading glasses.

Body: As the human eye ages, it starts to lose crucial functionality that enables the lens to change shape and autofocus on nearby objects. This regression of functionality is referred to as presbyopia in the ophthalmology world. Beginning around the age of 40, the human eye begins to be effects by presbyopia and is typically remedied through the prescription of reading glasses. However, entrepreneur Sudhir Bajaj has invested in a device manufactured by Lens Gen that will hopefully eliminate the need for reading glasses in patients suffering from presbyopia.

Sudhir Bajaj, a graduate of Boston University’s M.B.A. /M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering dual-degree program, began his entrepreneurial career with the incorporation of his first business, Planet Soft. Planet Soft was a corporation devoted to supporting the life insurance industry in a global market, and, as the Alternative Press notes, “power[ed] data exchanges that streamlined core insurance options in the areas of client acquisition, underwriting, and distribution management.” The business was successful in developing insurance software to assist businesses in drafting policies, and in 2012, Bajaj sold Planet Soft to Ebix for millions of dollars.

After a successful 13-year career as an entrepreneur, Sudhir Bajaj decided to invest in a new aspect of healthcare, this time contributing to LensGen’s development of a revolutionary interocular implant device. Lens Gen, based out of Irvine, Calif., is in the process of developing a device that will remedy the effects of presbyopia. Seen within the ophthalmology community as the “holy grail” of corrective surgical procedures, Bajaj’s contributions to LensGen have allowed the business to begin clinical testing in Q1 of 2015.

In the eyes of LensGen, lens implants on the market today are inadequate in their functionality. The company hopes their new product will “address all the shortcomings of the current designs as well as provide professionals and consumers with the clinical outcomes they would like to achieve.” Sudhir Bajaj has expressed his desire to continue his interest in investing in technological ventures and wellness initiatives, and this is the first of what is sure to be a series of investment contributions Bajaj will make to the medical community.
