Steve Coburn of Los Alamos is an outdoorsman to the deepest of his core. As the seasons change as well as his hobbies, so does Steve Coburn’s source of income. He gets most of his money from ski instruction in the winter and being a tour guide in the summer. Fall and spring are his down seasons, where he still enjoys some business in those fields but has much more free time to enjoy riding his motorcycle and playing golf. As he sees it, his seasonal employment is much like a retirement plan. He still gets to do all of the things he loves, and only has to work two thirds of the year.
In his line of work, things such as 401(k) and retirement plans are virtually nonexistent, but he’s okay with that. He makes enough money and lives a cheap, healthy lifestyle that will carry him well into his retirement years.
