Professional freelance photojournalist Spencer Niles will travel to the Australian outback with a team tasked to record Aboriginal stories and folklore

Spencer Niles announced he would be joining a team of photographers and other journalists as they travel to the Australian outback to record the stories and folklore of the Aboriginals living there. The assignment is part of a larger project that a few of Niles’ (undisclosed) clients have collaborated on. The project is shrouded in secrecy, but Niles can say that he will be traveling to the Outback with a team of other journalists.

Spencer Niles grew up in Hoboken, New Jersey. He had always loved playing with his father’s camera, and eventually became a professional wedding photographer. Over many trips to New York City from his home in Hoboken, Niles became acquainted with a high-ranking executive at one of the largest magazine companies in the United States. The magazine hired Niles to do regular field work for them on a consistent basis. Niles shot many assignments for the company before they sent him to Israel to help document the ongoing conflict there. When he returned to the United States, he decided he wanted to find more international crises to cover to show to the world.

Spencer Niles found his calling, and twenty years after he started shooting weddings for couples on a case-by-case basis, Niles is thrilled to be along on this important project for the culture of Australia and the world. Niles hopes that he can find some new perspectives that the world has not heard yet, and that his pictures are the ones that guide the public through their understanding of the Aboriginal way of life.

Spencer Niles has worked with many publications for many years, and he says that he has learned something new about the people and places he has visited for his work. He hopes that this next assignment will allow him to make contact with people who the world has not seen much of, and make his viewers and readers understand a bit more about the world around them. Niles hopes to continue his work until his body makes him retire at an old age. He has no regrets about the choices he made throughout his career, even those that may have been dangerous at the time.
