Aside from parents, there is no single adult is a student's life who spends more one on one time with that child. Therefore, the teacher is in a prime position to have the greatest impact on the student. In some cases, teachers spend more quality time with their students than those students get to spend with their own parents. It is because of this that teachers like Sean Houlihan have the greatest chance of changing a child's life for the positive.

There are many ways a teacher can demonstrate good behaviors for a student, regardless of the student's age or grade level. As children absorb far more than they are given credit for, it is likely that they are picking up on their teachers' behaviors, even if that was not the educator's conscious goal. This is yet another reason why it is important that a teacher models the best behaviors at all times, as their children are always watching and listening.

One of the ways a teacher acts as a positive role model is by showing respect to others. By always being respectful, no matter a person’s title or rank, the student learns that this is an appropriate behavior to model. This philosophy blends greatly with the thinking that everyone should treat others the way they would wish to be treated. Demonstrating an ability to make positive choices is yet another way that a teacher can influence and impact a child. As a faith based educator for many years, as well as a public school substitute, Sean Houlihan prides himself on the ability to make positive choices. He plans to continue his career as a teacher in Rhode Island, imparting his wisdom and role modeling characteristics to every student.
