Sean Houlihan has had a fulfilling career as a teacher in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Jersey. He was formally educated at Salve Regina University for his Bachelor’s degree; and at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey to obtain his Master’s in Education. After then, he worked as a social worker intern for the Rhode Island Training School. He then went on to work as a clerk for the Rhode Island Attorney General. His teaching career began at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Boonton, NJ; where he was a Social Studies and Science teacher from 2005 to 2007. He then went on to become a Social Studies and Grammar Teacher at Saint Joseph School in Bogota before moving to Lawrence, Massachusetts and being a Social Studies teacher at Lawrence Catholic Academy.

Sean Houlihan Massachusetts loves to teach; and not only does it show through the success of his students but also through awards that he has received for his work in the classroom. In 2009 he was named “Outstanding Catholic Teacher” from The Department of Elementary Schools of the National Catholic Educational Association. Also in 2009, he was nominated for Social Studies Teacher of the Year, and then nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2010.

Sean Houlihan’s passion for teaching branched into his knack for community outreach. During the aforementioned years, he worked as a volunteer for the Rhode Island Special Olympics for six years straight. He had also worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Newport in the past; and in 2014 they decided to bring him back on as Senior Director of Programs & Membership. In a formal announcement on the clubs website, they describe him as so:

“Sean is a teaching professional with nine years of experience in New Jersey and Massachusetts. In addition to teaching, Sean has worked in a variety of professional settings such as The Rhode Island Training School and The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office. Sean’s tenure with the Club began as a youth member and then adult volunteer before he joined the staff this past March.”
